SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations.
Navasota is a part of the Texas District 7 in SkillsUSA, now one of the largest Districts in Texas, with over 1600 kids competing in a variety of job skill related competitions over the 3 day event.
Though Navasota was one of the smallest schools competing, with a large majority being 5A or 6A schools, NHS had several students who placed in the onsite contests. Jackie Salazar placed 4th in the photography contest, Saul Diosdado placed 1st & Evin Diaz placed 3rd in computer programming.There are also 26 Navasota students who advanced to state through Photography, AV, & Photo Panel project submissions.
State advancers in Audio/Visual Group Project Submission were: Eli Chilton, Erica Grifaldo, Maria Valencia, & Martin Sierra.
Photography Exhibit State Advancers are: Abril Coronilla, Isabel Flores, Ana Hernandez, Marlen Llamas, Agustin Morales, Jicel Munoz, Adriana Peralta, Phillip Peyton, Jennifer Reyes, Juliana Suarez & Jackie Salazar.
Photo Panel State Advancers: Jorge Gonzalez, Alexis Angunio, Jamie Foster, Mikayla Keese, Chance Pavlock, Daniel Almanza, Carla Mijangos, Melissa Rapp (Best in Show), Naeli Eguia, Alanah Montemayor and Erica Barrios.
These students will compete in the Texas SkillsUSA State Conference in Corpus Christi on April 5th-8th.
